Togliano - Villa Maisano formerly della Torre

[15th-16th centuries]

The villa lies on the top of a small hill and consists of two parts from different historical periods: a square tower and the base of the current residence, which predate the 16th century, and the villa built in 1587 by Pietro della Torre as a summer residence. Currently, the villa is owned by the Maisano family.
The first part, which dates back to the original castle structure, features a stone and brick base with two circular corner elements and a square tower. The tower's openings include single-lancet windows with pointed and round arches, along with small slits. The tower's top part is decorated with a triforium and an entrance portal on the south side. Below the impost level of the top floor, the original decoration includes small brick arches.
The villa, built on the foundations of the original small castle, is set back and raised above the level of the hill. It has a nearly square floor plan, with two above-ground floors and an attic. The interior layout includes a central hallway and several lateral rooms. The villa preserves 16th-century paintings, including a large frieze with flowers and tritons attributed to the school of Paolo Amalteo.
The main façade, facing south, features an entrance portal framed by stone ashlars. On the upper floor, aligned with the entrance, there is an arched portal and a small protruding balcony. The villa's openings have stone frames, with a high stone cornice that delimits the top of the façade.
