Summit of Monte Colovrat/Kolovrat
At the extreme eastern border of the Natisone Valleys, the peaks culminating towards the northwest with Monte Cucco di Luico (1242 meters above sea level) in Slovenian territory. This ridge of Colovrat rises about 1000 meters above the Isonzo valley and hosts, on its southern slope, between 700 and 800 meters above sea level, the villages of Drenchia, Trinco, Zuodar, and Crai. The ridge, which extends for approximately four kilometres, is bordered to the southeast by Monte Podclabuz (1114 meters above sea level), at the foot of which lies the Solarie Pass, connected to the Isonzo valley.
The border between Italy and Slovenia passes at the peaks. The easy climb from the Italian side allows you to reach one of the most interesting panoramic points accessible from the Natisone Valleys, also because the top of the entire scenic ridge is devoid of forest cover and hosts extensive molinia meadows and pastures. To the north, the gaze is drawn to the massif of Mount Nero (Krn) which rises to 2275 meters above sea level; to the west stands Mount Matajur, to the south you can see the wooded valleys of the Natisone's tributaries, and to the east the Tolmin basin.
Accessibility: From Crai, one ascends along a paved road to the Solarie Pass, from where one proceeds along a forest track that winds along the entire southern slope to the state border.
