Grado is known as the “Island of the Sun” thanks to its eight kilometres of south-facing beaches, where the sun accompanies long days of seaside relaxation. From the historic Spiaggia Costa Azzurra to Spiaggia Principale, all the way to Grado Pineta and the beaches of Bosco, every corner of the coast offers different atmospheres between sea, nature and wellness.

Slow nature between lagoon and reserves

In Grado, nature invites visitors to slow down. The lagoon, the nature reserves and the stretches of water surrounding the town offer landscapes suspended between sky and sea.

Between the islets of the Grado Lagoon, the Valle Cavanata Nature Reserve and the Foce dell’Isonzo Nature Reserve, visitors can spot pink flamingos, herons and many species of water birds immersed in one of the most unique ecosystems of the Upper Adriatic.

Among sunsets over the lagoon, hidden canals, traditional fishermen’s huts and nature trails, Grado is the perfect place to rediscover your own rhythm and be surprised by authentic scenery.

Grado and water sports

Thanks to constant winds, shallow waters and wide open spaces by the sea, Grado is one of the favourite destinations for lovers of outdoor sports.

Along the coastline it is possible to practise SUP, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming and many other beach sports, experiencing the sea in a dynamic and fun way. Sailing schools and dedicated areas also allow beginners to approach these disciplines safely, accompanied by qualified instructors.

Between adrenaline, freedom and spectacular lagoon views, Grado offers perfect outdoor experiences for every level.

Cycling in Grado means crossing lagoons, seaside landscapes, countryside and art cities along some of the most scenic cycling routes in Europe.

The town is connected to the Alpe Adria Ciclovia and the FVG2 Adriatic Sea Cycle Route, ideal routes for discovering the territory between nature and culture. Thanks to intermodal connections and maritime services, visitors can create tailor-made itineraries combining cycling and navigation.

From natural reserves to the UNESCO sites of Aquileia and Palmanova, every route offers unique views and food-and-wine stops to discover the flavours of the region.

Wellness with a sea view

In Grado, wellness meets the sea. The historic Terme Marine di Grado, renowned for thalassotherapy, offer spaces dedicated to relaxation and regeneration thanks to seawater, wellness treatments and relaxing atmospheres.

Alongside the thermal baths, hotels with spas and wellness centres overlooking the lagoon complete the offer, creating experiences designed to restore balance, energy and tranquillity throughout the year.

A sea of culture

Walking through the historic centre of Grado means immersing yourself in a network of narrow streets, small squares and charming corners with a Venetian atmosphere. Between early Christian basilicas, Roman archaeological remains and artisan workshops, the town tells centuries of history linked to the sea and the lagoon.

From here it is easy to reach the UNESCO sites of Aquileia and Palmanova, or travel by sea towards Trieste crossing the suggestive Gulf of Trieste.

Traditions, culture and flavours can also be discovered in the restaurants of the historic centre, in lagoon-side venues and through experiences dedicated to seafood cuisine.
