San Volfango Church - Cerkev Svetega Štuoblanka

[19th century]

The details relating to its construction are uncertain, possibly dating back to the early 19th century: sources indicate that it only had its own priest to administer it from 1888 onwards. The building, oriented along the north-south axis, is located on the top of a hill accessible via a staircase. The bell tower is situated on the western side at the base of the hill, with the entrance at ground level. The elongated presbytery is in line with the nave, as are the two small projecting chapels, each with a single-pitch roof. The low sacristy body adjoins the presbytery on the west side. The gabled façade features a molded tympanum and a small ventilation oculus, with the perimeter plinth in concrete. The stone portal is preceded by three steps, and there is a commemorative plaque on the right side. Inside, the nave has a flat ceiling, bevelled at the point of connection with the walls, with a frame running along the perimeter, set above the round-arch entrance of the two chapels. The presbytery, divided by a stringcourse, has rounded corners from which the six vaults of the ceiling originate. On the counter-façade, to the left, is the baptismal font niche and the choir loft supported by two columns. The floor is paved with greenish marble tiles in the lateral sections, and yellow and ochre in the central aisle. The church is part of the "Path of the 44 Votive Chapels" in the Valli del Natisone.
