Rural village Stregna/Sriednje

The toponym "Sriednje" comes from the Slovenian word "srednji" (meaning middle), "Cernetici" from the surname "Cernetic," deriving from "Cernè" (meaning dark in color), while "Preserje" has an uncertain origin.
The three villages arise along a route that connected the valley with the top of the hills behind, forming one of the most interesting orographic and settlement systems in the Slavia Friulana region.
On the almost horizontal ridge of the promontory there is Presserie and Cernetig village, with the 15th century San Paolo parish at the highest point and halfway down the slope, lies the village of Stregna.
The integration between the land’s orography, pathways, settlements, the layout of fields and meadows, and vegetation give the area a high landscape value.
Stregna is mentioned in 1242 as "villa di Striena" and noted in 1275 among the fiefs of Enrico Birbiz of Cividale.
The buildings are grouped into small, separated clusters and consist of dwellings and cottages. In the lower part of the village, some buildings have preserved the characteristic elements of traditional architecture.
Cernetig is arranged on the slope of the ridge; in the eastern part, an "L"-shaped building and a nearly adjacent linear one form a small courtyard. Some centuries-old mulberry trees in the village bear witness to the breeding of silkworms.
Presserie consists of two separate clusters, the lower one being aggregated and compact, and the upper one arranged in a line along the level contour.
