On the northern side of Monte Plauris, the geological features of the area have been a significant reference point for over a century for the entire community: the mines of Rio Resartico were among the main sources of income for the residents of Resiutta. Today, few ruins and galleries carved into the mountain with sheer human effort remain to testify to the miners' tough lives.
Following CAI path n. 702, you can reach the ruins of the mining village and a convenient shelter always open at an altitude of 895 meters above sea level. Continuing a short uphill for a few more minutes, during the summer season (typically between June and September), it's possible to visit the initial section of the mine, which has been secured by the Park.
To fully experience the mining era of Resiutta, it is recommended to visit:
Resartico Mine Exhibition: Explore the exhibition showcasing the history of the Resartico Mine.
Resiutta Icehouse Gallery: Visit the icehouse gallery to learn about its historical significance.
If you're traveling the route during summer, it's suggested to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Resia or Resartico streams.
