The presence of the picturesque lake with its crystal-clear waters, at the foot of Coglians highest mountain in the Region, together with the floristic component typical of high altitudes, make this hike not to be missed.

The most spectacular evidences of the most impressive "organogenic cliff" of Paleozoic age visible in Europe today are exposed here along the slopes above the enchanting Lake Volaia.
The route (cai 144) constitutes the most bre connection to the Volaia Pass area, an important junction of the seniteristic network forming part of the "Traversata Carnica." Close to the Pass are the Rifugio Lambertenghi Romanin on Italian territory and the Rifugio Wolaiersee-Hutte across the border.
Additional elements of interest derive from the presence in the surroundings of remnants of war works from the Great War, a true"open-air museum" with the presence of trenches, machine gun emplacements and heavy artillery pieces, feritories and tunnels.

In the winter/spring months it is good to climb with crampons due to possible presence of ice. Depending on the condition of the snowpack you may face the hike with snowshoes. Always consult the Weather and attention to the Avalanche Bulletin before setting off.
From regional road 355, at the village of Forni Avoltri, turn towards Collina ( 7 km) pass the village and continue for 2 km more until you reach the large parking lot at Rigugio Tolazzi where the paved road ends.
