Hiking route along the seventh stage of the "Traversata carnica - Via della Pace," from malga Promosio to Fabiani refuge
The seventh stage, shorter than the others to recover a little of the energy expended in the previous days, starts from the malga Promosio and ascends to the green Cercevesa saddle . Sloping down the eastern slope of the Crete di Mezzodì, one enters one of the most solitary corners of the Carnic mountains where encounters with wildlife are by no means rare. From the Cercevesa saddle, one descends into the small valley of the stream of the same name. Past the ancient pasture of the Cercevesa cheese factory (ruins) with a long route in continuous ups and downs, the southern slopes of M. Scarniz and Cuestalta are crossed to the Sella di Creta Rossa saddle overlooking the Pecol di Chiaula valley. From the saddle, rich in evidence of the First World War, we descend steeply into the valley of the Rio Valentin, reaching the Fabiani hut at an altitude of 1539m, the day's stage stop.
The area of the Italian front line located near the Crete Rosse Saddle is interesting.

There are no refreshments along the route; stock up on water at Malga Promosio. The path beyond the Cercevesa saddle can be, at times, very grassy making it difficult to locate the correct trail; it is useful in tral sense to make use of GPS instrumentation.
From the malga, follow the service road downstream for a few dozen meters, finding, on the left, a dirt road that climbs to the former Guardia di Finanza barracks (now a B&B). Past the structure, the trail climbs in twists and turns through shrubby vegetation toward the obvious saddle. Past the Cercevesa notch, descend the opposite slope to an elevation of about 1730m to begin a long traverse to the east. The trail alternates between ascents and descents, crossing a few streams. The route does not present any difficulties whatsoever, but it runs for a long time on rather exposed grassy ridges.
At a debris gully, keep right toward the Sella di Creta Rossa from which you continue downhill for a stretch (heading left) before turning right toward the refuge, which can be glimpsed a short distance away.
Malga Promosio is not reached by public transportation. The public bus service regularly connects Tolmezzo to the hamlet of Timau di Paluzza from where the CAI 402 trail starts with arrival at the malga.
Malga Promosio can also be reached by private means (during seasonal opening) through the malga's service dirt road.
Malga Promosio can be reached by private vehicle (during the period when the malga is open) via the dirt roadway that climbs from the hamlet of Laipacco, near Cleulis di Paluzza.
There is ample parking in the space in front of the facility.
