Nature Trail Scrutto - Picon - Castelmonte

The trail, historically used by pilgrims from the valleys traveling from San Leonardo to the Castelmonte sanctuary, still offers a pleasant and easy walk through a beautiful natural environment. Starting from the sports field in Scrutto, the trail begins with a short stretch of country road before entering a dense forest of ash, hornbeam, and chestnut trees. After about an hour of walking, you reach the charming village of Picon (352 meters above sea level), where several well-preserved buildings exemplify the traditional rural architecture of the Natisone Valley.
From Picon, the trail continues to ascend, passing a votive chapel. The walk then follows a steep path through a majestic beech forest until it intersects with the paved road at the CAI trail No. 747 (540 meters above sea level), which shortly leads to the famous Marian sanctuary.
On the return journey, it is recommended to visit the charming 15th-century chapel dedicated to San Silvestro, located in a clearing at the bottom of the valley of the Curl stream.
