Since the 13th century, a type of cheese has been produced on the Montasio plateau, which at the end of the 18th century was named after it: Montasio. La mountain Jôf di Montasio is 2.754 metres high and is on the Julian Alps. The cheese whether fresh, mature or extra-mature is a DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) product and is above all the main ingredient of the frico, one of the typical dishes of the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia!
