Teatro Verdi di Trieste

Trieste

The Teatro Lirico "Giuseppe Verdi" is one of the oldest working opera houses, built between 1798 and 1801 by Gian Antonio Selva (the same as the Fenice of Venice) and Matteo Pertsch.

Its structure recalls that of the Teatro della Scala in Milan. Its Foyer was built at the same time as the Theatre in 1800 on drawings by the architect Selva and was built as a rectangular double-height room with free columns along the four sides, placed in support of a continuous balcony.

Decorated many times, also with frescoes by Giuseppe Lorenzo Gatteri, the Hall was reduced by Geiringer in 1882 to its current dimensions and is suitable for special meetings and fascinating gala dinners.
