Medieval Museum of Monfalcone

The Medieval Museum of Monfalcone was created to enhance the archaeological area found during excavations for the restoration of the building.
Numerous artefacts were found during the excavations, pieces that tell the story of daily life in Monfalcone in the late medieval period. These include tools for work and common use such as hoes, nails, coins, and ceramics of various types and shapes that take us back to the local reality of an agricultural centre located on the border of the patriarchal territory with the possessions of the counts of Gorizia and Duino.
In addition to these tools of communal living, there is also the important discovery of a one-and-a-half-handed sword found in the area used as a blacksmith's workshop, an object that brings us back to the conflict endemic in the Monfalcone area between the end of the 13th century and the entire 15th century, when Monfalcone acted as a checkpoint against Turkish incursions.
The discovery and valorisation of the oldest foundations of the area on which the town hall stands today allows us to shed new light and give new interpretations on the life of Monfalcone between the Patriarchate of Aquileia and the domination of the Republic of Venice, which ended in 1797, a few years before the process of demolishing the walls began, of which a few shreds remain today.
