The site of significant natural interest is located just outside the village of San Leonardo, on the road to Altana. From the main road, a path leads into the gorge of the Rio Patok for about 600 meters, shaded by native trees. The path is easy to walk, with minimal elevation change and suitable for everyone, although some parts are particularly damp due to the proximity of the watercourse that used to power mills, of which some traces can still be seen.
After walking through the section enclosed by deciduous trees, we find ourselves in a bright basin where we can enjoy the nearby Kot waterfalls. A small cave here shelters a small white statue of the Madonna, and on the right, one can admire a magnificent emerald-green moss waterfall. The privileged observation point is located right between the two waterfalls. In this protected area, the butcher’s broom (Ruscus hypoglossum) thrives, a rare plant that has found its ideal habitat here.
