Santa Maria Assunta Church - Cerkev Svete Marije Vnebovzeta
[16th-18th-19th centuries]
The original structure dates back to 1563, and the current building was rebuilt in the 18th century. Various expansion works were carried out in 1837, including the tiled roof, ceilings, and the new choir arch, which was then raised in 1838. The bell tower was built in 1850, and the façade was enlarged and modified in 1851. Damaged by the 1976 earthquake, the church was restored, designed by architect Mario Deison from Udine between 1985 and 1989. The building has a single nave, and the presbytery ends in a pentagonal shape. The sacristy body, with a single-pitch roof, is in the south of the building connected between the nave and the presbytery, with an external entrance also. The bell tower, set aside from the main building, is aligned with the presbytery. The façade is articulated by four stone pilasters on a high base, upon which rests the tympanum with molded frames and a central oculus. The portal is made of stone with an architrave and projecting frame supported by brackets between two rectangular stone-framed windows. A small thermal window is placed in the central partition. The interior has a flat ceiling, decorated in sections, with a running cornice and two semi-circular arched rectangular windows on each side. On either side of the raised presbytery, bounded by a large round arch, are two side altars. The flooring is in gray marble slabs, with the central aisle bordered by dark marble bands.
