Not far from the Fort of the Predil Lake, the Fort of the Aibl gorge was erected by the Austro-Hungarians but today we can only see a few ruins. Built during the period 1885-1887 and reinforced in the following years, it was abandoned even before the Great War began as its unfavourable location made it an easy target for the Italian artillery and, also, it could not strike back effectively. Dismissed and outgunned as early as May 1915, the fort was hit several times and completely destroyed in August of that year.
Initially, the fort was provided with three 90 mm guns and two 8 mm machine-guns and two more could be added. In the following years, it was further extended and underground passages were created too. Today, unfortunately, only some concrete walls and ruins can be seen, partly obstructed by the vegetation.
