The sailing ship leaves and takes us to... the Barcolana

The Barcolana is not only the sea, the sun, the wind, sails, regattas, jibes, buoys, ropes, bits and hawsers. The Barcolana is also culture, literature, exhibitions, food and wine and much more! You already know this but you love the sea! I know that… and so do I!
So, follow me! I'll take you to have a new Barcolana experience, on board a sailing ship! Yes, a real sailing ship, a reminder of bygone days, with colourful sails, ropes and wood consumed by salt.

So, let's sail in the Gulf of Trieste!
We set sail from the Molo Audace while all shapes and sizes of sailing boats pass by us to get to the port and we look towards Piazza Unità and the entire city behind us, getting smaller and smaller. We skirt Porto Vecchio, with the Ursus, its cranes and the port warehouses put to use again. We admire the ridge of the Karst, which reaches the sea in Barcola, and the Faro della Vittoria (Victory Lighthouse).

At sea, peace and serenity surround us. We sail among seagulls and cormorants and while the sun gradually goes down on the horizon, lulled by the waves, and the majestic white walls of Miramare Castle stand before us, we enjoy an aperitif.
Because the Barcolana also means aperitifs! Spritztime! Yes, because Trieste would not be Trieste and the Barcolana would not be the Barcolana without a spritz!
While we are sipping a glass of good glass of wine of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, all around us the sea fills again with sails, ready to race in the regatta in the Barcolana by night.
Unfortunately, the journey is already over and the docks of the pier appear in the distance, but one last pleasant surprise awaits us: the lights of Trieste begin to light up, adding to the charm of the city and offering us a last unforgettable memory of this Trieste experience.

Where to stay

I was born in Trieste, some years ago. Not too many but I would say the right number.
I love nature, the sea, the mountains, travelling, films, art, theatrical performances, and telling stories...
So, let's use images and words to tell you about this beautiful region of ours, because being here is already a little like being on holiday.
