The Karst in your heart

The Karst in your heart

After admiring the view of the Karst from the windows of my house for two months, I couldn't wait to return to the Monfalcone Great War Theme Park. In this difficult time, walking in nature among the karst rocks, trees and historic landmarks is a great way to find some peace.

So, as soon as it was possible, I grabbed my backpack to reach the heights above the city worksites. Starting from the underpass of Salita alla Rocca I reached the Gradiscata and proceeded around it and took the path that leads to Height 121. From here the gaze extends to the left towards Mount Cosich and the heights of the Selz, on the right the Venetian Fortress, a symbol of the city, emerges from the vegetation with its central keep, whose flanks impose themselves on the blue background of the sky.
A walk through paths and trenches that climb, meandering, on slight reliefs where once stood ancient castles, whose few remains mingle with the testimonies of the Great War in basso Isonzo.

Where to stay

Andrea Ferletic

For several years I have been involved with the Great War as part of the historical group called “I Grigioverdi del Carso”.  This passion leads me to focus on “Art and culture” and “slow tours”, above all in the Karst region and in the places that experienced battles in the twentieth century.
