Piancavallo is a natural basin at about 1200 meters above sea level and can be reached in about half an hour by car from Pordenone. It's a popular destination for winter sports but has plenty to offer even in summer in terms of outdoor activities.
I had the pleasure to accompany to Piancavallo the 17 young people from nine European countries who participated in the CuriosiFVG2019 Hands&Brain&Heart project.
Every year, the IRSE (Regional Institute of European Studies of Friuli Venezia Giulia) organises the Curiosi del Territorio project to bring to our region young European ambassadors, in search of ideas and strategies to popularise and promote everything that makes Friuli Venezia Giulia unique in Europe.
Together we went on the Passeggiata delle Malghe [the Walk of the Malghe], an itinerary of about 2 hours immersed in the natural beauty of this environment. Accompanied by a nature guide, we learned many interesting facts about the history and nature of the place.
We spotted edelweisses, fossils, wild animal tracks, wild flowers and orchids like Nigritella, which smells of vanilla chocolate.
