Cornappo Torrent Gorge - Monte Bernadia

The Cornappo, after receiving water from its tributaries (the Rio di Monteaperta and Valcalda) and the Gorgons Stream coming from the valley south of Taipana, cuts into the limestone core of La Bernadia - Plaiul, forming a much narrower and deeper gorge compared to that of the Torre Stream valley, about six kilometers further west. In the bed of the valley, a long stretch of gorge, are many caves (Pre Oreak and Vigant being the most significant), and the stream gains and loses a lot of water. The gorge extends for about 3.5 kilometers, developing just upstream from the Brisicul bridge and up to Torlano di Sopra, in a landscape of great spectacularity and beauty, both due to the action of the waters (which have shaped the carbonate rocks into various and distinctive forms) and to the steep slopes, which in some sections overlook the stream. The particular morphology of the valley, with its steep slopes, affects the development of the forest formations, which are characterized by the presence of black hornbeam, field elm, oak, and mountain ash, forming a low and intricate undergrowth. Accessibility: from the panoramic road that crosses the entire gorge along the valley floor. The Bernadia Trail Area, on Monte Bernadia, also extends along the valley and offers a variety of routes suitable for all skill levels. With spectacular views, caves to explore, and well-maintained trails, it is an ideal location for enthusiasts and nature lovers.
