Chapel of Santa Margherita di Prampero

[15th century]

On the northern slope of the hill, below the castle, stands the Chapel of Santa Margherita, already documented in 1384 and rebuilt by the state in 1993 after the 1976 earthquake. The chapel was built for the devotion of Simone di Prampero, the illustrious feudal lord with estates from Carnia to Istria, who received high civil, military and political positions from Patriarch Marquardo di Randek and was appointed Knight of the Golden Spur by Emperor Charles IV. In 1409, his son Giacomo Giusto endowed the church with his own income, and in 1413 he became the patronage of the consortes di Prampero. Today, ecclesially the chapel belongs to the Forania of Tarcento and maintains ancient traditions which include gathering the faithful in May, for the Rogation rite, and on the fourth Sunday of July, for the Mass in honor of the Patron Saint.
The building features a rectangular nave with a square apse with a cross vault. The entrance opens onto the simple gabled façade, surmounted by a double lancet bell tower, flanked by two windows and an oculus in the centre. The perimeter walls are exposed stone, and the roofing is in brick.
