Tucked away in the narrow streets of the picturesque historical centre of
Muggia, not far from the
Cathedral, is the church dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. The ancient building features a façade that reflects the Gothic-Franciscan style. This sacred building, restored in
1411, is a precious testimony of the artistic and religious heritage of the city.
Inside the church, visitors can admire various
works of art and
architectural elements of great value. These include
tombstones that chronicle stories from the past of this territory, two valuable canvases painted by the Venetian artist
G. Liberti, three altars adorned with sacred decorations, and
a Pietà dating back to the 1400s, preserved inside a very suggestive niche.
