The ancient, fortified settlement, or Castelliere, which
dates back to the Bronze Age, is strategically located. Excavations carried out in this area have revealed
prehistoric artefacts and pottery from the Roman period.
The Castelliere is located on a hill, 199 metres above sea level, where the
open view made it an excellent position for defence. Surrounded by an
imposing wall approximately 5 metres high, it was probably defended by an additional outer wall, visible today as scattered stones scattered around the site.
Its strategic position was also highlighted in more recent times when,
during the First World War,
trenches were dug and built to protect Mount Ermada, the remains of which can still be seen today.
