Globojner Park

The park lies at the foot of Mount Calvo and Mount Spaccato. It is an excellent starting point for excursions in the Karst region of Trieste.

Several trails meet at this location, including the Roman Road that connects the city centre of Trieste to the Karst, the Derin Trail that leads through the village of Banne to Opicina and many other Italian Alpine Club (Club Alpino Italiano - CAI) trails.

According to some studies and research, the Roman Road (Trail n. 11) originally connected Trieste with the Slovenian town of Postumia and probably followed an even older route dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages. The remains of a Castelliere, a fortified settlement typical of these historic periods, have been discovered on Mount Calvo.

The road was used in more recent times by the people of the village of Padriciano in order to reach Trieste and sell their products.

The Derin Trail offers an extraordinary view of the Gulf of Trieste and leads the hike all the way to the Opicina Obelisk.

Globojner Park is an excellent place to enjoy a walk in nature and experience the essence of the Karst.
