The Water Landscape (R067)

The route begins at the picturesque Lake Ragogna, a glacial lake surrounded by greenery, where you’ll find a lookout tower and a cozy café. From here, you’ll cycle at the foot of the hills of San Daniele del Friuli until you reach the Majano plain. The route winds through fields, streams, and canals, in an agricultural landscape rich in tranquility and historical landmarks. Among the most significant sites are the Acqua Caduta stream, the ancient Hospitale di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme—founded in the 12th century by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and a place of welcome for pilgrims—and Susans Castle, an elegant private residence overlooking the hills. The route continues toward the Tagliamento River and along the FVG 7 Bike Path, with a brief detour to the Acqua Caduta biotope and the ancient Jewish cemetery. The return to Lake Ragogna concludes a journey that blends nature, history, and authentic landscapes.
