The loop trail begins in Piancavallo and takes us to the mountain pastures along forest roads that wind through woods and pastures until we reach Casera Caseratte. You get back on your bike and descend quickly through the Candaglia pastures; the trail levels out among meadows and groves of beech, pine, and fir trees, offering spectacular panoramic views of the western Friulian plain below at certain points. You’ll pass the Casera del Medico and Casa Barzan until you reach the intersection with the Candaglia road. Follow the paved road uphill for a few hundred meters until you reach another intersection marked by the CAI, where you’ll turn left onto a forest trail that leads directly to Casera Collalto. Following a gently sloping forest trail, you’ll pass through a beautiful beech forest and return to the starting point.
Author’s recommendation
There is no drinking water at the huts or along the trail; be sure to stock up at the starting point.

Safety information
A paved route along a low-traffic road until the end of the houses in Piancavallo. Then, forest roads made of stones and quarry gravel—well-compacted but somewhat bumpy—for the remainder of the route, except for about 350 meters on a trail and another short stretch of paved road in the Candaglia area.
At certain times of year, there may be heavy traffic at the Piancavallo roundabout and in the parking lots. Also, watch out for hikers you may encounter on the trail and forest roads, especially in the summer. Near the mountain huts, there may be grazing animals: be mindful of their movements and do not disturb them.

Roadbook
Starting from the parking lot, turn immediately right onto Via Collalto, which winds uphill past the small houses and apartment complexes of Piancavallo. Stay on this road, even past the signs for the CAI trail. When you’re almost at the top of the climb, near the last house on Via Collalto, a forest road branches off to the left into the beech forest. Follow the trail for about one kilometer until you easily reach a pasture, where you’ll cross the CAI “Passeggiata” trail. From here—with less experienced riders walking their bikes—follow the CAI signs up a narrow but short trail that crosses a small saddle and then leads downhill to Casera Caseratte. Get back on your bike and descend quickly through the Candaglia pastures. Pass Casera del Medico and Casa Barzan until you reach the intersection with the Candaglia road. Follow the paved road uphill for a few hundred meters until you reach a new intersection marked by the CAI, where you turn left onto a forest trail that leads immediately to Casera Collalto. After a few dozen meters, the trail levels off noticeably: a gently sloping forest trail leads you back to the starting point. The trail emerges just before the Piancavallo roundabout; after a few hundred meters on the paved road, you’ll return to the parking lot.
