This route presents ancient Gorizia and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) that arose after World War II when the Allies drew a new border between Italy and then-Yugoslavia. During the ride you pass such sights as the cathedral, Gorizia Castle and the Fashion and Great War museums, Victory Square with St. Ignatius Church, Attems-Petzenstein Palace and the Coronini Kromberg Palace. You pedal along a section of the border where there are two small museums full of curiosities: the pass museum and the smuggling museum. You ride uphill next to the Rafut villa park and reach the Franciscan monastery of Castagnevizza in Slovenia. Continuing on we reach the center of Nova Goriza designed following the examples of modern cities designed by Le Corbusier and remember the history through the monuments. You return to Gorizia via the historic Transalpina train station.
Author’s recommendation
