A mountain bike ride that doesn't present any particular technical difficulties. With just 287 meters of elevation gain spread over 34 km and altitudes ranging from 158 to 249 meters above sea level, the route is suitable for all skill levels and is perfect for a leisurely ride through the Friulian countryside. From the Gemona train station, take the Alpe Adria bike path and ride north to Ospedaletto. From there, an easy dirt section runs along the Tagliamento River, leading to Osoppo, the Risorgive dei Bârs springs, and the fish pond. Here, turn left, cross SR463, and ride on mixed surfaces toward Buja and then Artegna. From there, follow the bike path to the Silans fountain in Gemona and then on to the cathedral. This is the only spot where the incline might pose a challenge for those who aren’t in good shape. The stretch is short and wide, so those who aren’t in shape can simply push their bikes. From the cathedral, the route heads downhill back to the station.
Author’s recommendation
In Artegna, climb up to the castle hill for a break and a beautiful view. On weekends, a snack bar is open inside the castle.

Roadbook
The route starts at the Gemona del Friuli train station. From here, you immediately take a section that follows the FVG1 Alpe Adria road until you reach the village of Ospedaletto, where an easy dirt road begins that runs along the Tagliamento River to Osoppo. You’ll cycle through the Risorgive dei Bârs. Once you reach the fishpond, turn left, crossing the SR463, and head toward Buja and then Artegna. Continue along the FVG3 bike path until you reach the Silans Fountain in Gemona del Friuli. From here, the route becomes steep enough to be challenging for those who aren’t in shape. Follow the cobblestone road uphill toward the cathedral. Pass by the town’s historic center and head back toward the starting point.
