The bike route from Gemona del Friuli to Cividale del Friuli offers a fascinating journey through picturesque Friulian landscapes and villages steeped in history. From Gemona del Friuli we set off towards Artegna, with its medieval streets and the majestic Savorgnan d'Artegna Castle. Continuing through Magnano in Riviera and Borgo Urana, you pedal through the Friulian countryside.
The route continues through Tarcento, passing through Molinis, Loneriacco, Qualso and Zompitta, where enchanting villages with a self-contained atmosphere are revealed. Passing through Savorgnano del Torre we reach Povoletto, where the hills begin to become gentler.
The route, passing through Grions del Torre and Bottenicco, culminates in the arrival at Cividale del Friuli, a city founded by Julius Caesar with the name Forum Iulii (from which the name Friuli comes) in 568 AD. Cividale became the seat of the first Lombard duchy in Italy and later, for several centuries, the residence of the Patriarchs of Aquileia.
We recommend a stop either to visit the Savorgnan d'Artegna Castle or a tour of Cividale's historic centre and the famous Pontre del Diavolo.
