The route is divided into the stages Venice-Caorle / Caorle-Lignano / Lignano-Grado / Grado-Trieste. The itinerary passes through the main seaside resorts of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Friulian lowlands, and protected nature reserves until it reaches the Karst. During the summer months, some sections of the itinerary can be traveled on board boats equipped to transport bicycles to enjoy the view from the sea. This opportunity offers the chance to experience moments of relaxation and observe the wonderful natural world of the lagoon environment up close. Lignano Sabbiadoro can be reached thanks to the X River bike boat service. Already in Lignano it is possible to embark for the seaside villages of Marano Lagunare and Grado. From Cervignano del Friuli you take the Alpe Adria cycle route that passes through the UNESCO site of Aquileia until you reach Grado connected by sea with Trieste. From Sistiana you pedal toward Trieste accompanied by splendid views of its Gulf.
Author’s recommendation
It is a poorly shaded route, and in the summer season it is preferable to ride in the cooler hours.
