A route in Friuli Venezia Giulia to discover hills, vineyards and rural villages.
The route retraces the route of the 'Race for Haiti' solidarity race.
The route starts in Cividale del Friuli, a ducal city that is a UNESCO heritage site and boasts such treasures as the Cathedral and the Lombard Temple. The first part of the loop follows the natural course of the Natisone River, a perfect travelling companion. You pass through rural villages where agriculture and waterways are the main protagonists, surrounded by the countryside, forests and hills. Arriving in Tarcento, known as the "Pearl of Friuli" and a hinge between the Torre Valley and the foothills of the Julian Pre-Alps, you will see Villa Moretti and the tower of Coia Castle. We continue along the hilly area renowned for the production of great wines such as Ramandolo, towards Nimis where the ancient Parish Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio stands. To return to Cividale del Friuli, we descend through vineyards to Bottenicco di Moimacco, where the Villa dei Claricini with its Italian-style gardens dominates in the distance.
