Wineries scattered among the hills, vineyards, and rural villages suspended in time are the protagonists of this route.
A bike trip from Cividale to Gorizia.
The route begins in Cividale, Italy's first Lombard duchy. You pedal towards Firmano from where the route develops along the Natisone River. Having reached San Giovanni al Natisone, a locality that today belongs to the industrial district linked to the production of chairs, one can already catch a glimpse of Mount Quarin at the foot of which rises Cormons, a town that bears visible signs of its Austrian past in the bronze statue of Maximilian I of Habsburg in Piazza Libertà. Places of interest are the Cathedral of St. Adalbert with its grand entrance steps and Palazzo Locatelli with its Italianate garden. Here you go from the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali wine zone to the DOC Collio wine zone. You pedal toward Capriva del Friuli, where Spessa Castle can be seen in the distance, past the Preval nature oasis and Villa Russiz. You reach Gorizia through Piedimonte, a town located at the foot of Mount Calvario. This hill is linked to the events of the Great War.
