A cycling route between Poffabro and Toppo, charming villages nestled in the greenery of the Pordenone foothills. The route is closed for construction until March 24, 2027.
Itinerary
Starting from Maniago, you’ll venture into the picturesque gorge of the Colvera Stream, surrounded by sheer cliffs and the roaring stream. The route leads to the ancient village of Poffabro, a jewel of mountain architecture: leave your bike in the square and stroll through the narrow, cobblestone streets. Get back on your bike and head down toward the picturesque mountain village of Navarons, the birthplace of the Friulian poet Novella Cantarutti. Cross the Meduna River and, following the Pedemontana bike path (FVG3), reach Toppo and its ancient stone houses. Continue toward Meduno and then to Maniago along the FVG3.
Food & Wine
This region is home to the Cavasso Nuovo red onion, a Slow Food Presidium—a delicacy with a sweet, crisp core. Excellent even when eaten raw, it’s a delicious accompaniment to cured meats and cheeses. The Cavasso red onion is harvested in August and stored in braids throughout the year. RECOMMENDED DISH: Barley risotto with Cavasso onions.
After visiting Poffabro, you can also explore the nearby town of Frisanco, which features equally unique and interesting architecture, as well as the amazing exhibition of miniature models of the town’s houses, landmarks, and rural way of life, titled “Da li mans di Carlin.” For more information, please visit https://www.turismofvg.it/musei/mostra-da-li-mans-di-carlin

Follow the SR 177 all the way to the roundabout where it intersects with the SR 464, near the aforementioned town. Continue toward Maniago, staying on the regional highway the entire time. Once you reach Maniago, cross the bridge over the Colvera River and continue straight on Via Unità d’Italia, which slopes slightly upward. At the end of the incline, you’ll see Via Stazione on your left: turn there and continue briefly until you reach the train station.
