The Cellina torrent collects its clear waters in the heart of the Friulian Dolomites and carries them towards the plain after passing through a scenic gorge that is very deep at times. The Cellina is one of the first Italian rivers to have been harnessed to produce electricity: in 1906 the hydroelectric power station in Malnisio produced the energy to provide the first lighting in Venice.

The Cellina is one of the first Italian rivers to have been harnessed to produce electricity: in 1906 the hydroelectric power station in Malnisio produced the energy to provide the first lighting in Venice.
After departing from the Montereale Valcellina railway station, we head towards Malnisio, where the former hydroelectric power station is located, now converted into a technological museum hosting scientific and art exhibitions. The route continues along the FVG 3 Pedemontana cycle track as far as Marsure, enjoying the wide view of the mountains of Piancavallo and of the Cansiglio. The route then bends towards the Magredi lowland areas of the Cellina torrent, until reaching the deep and wide river furrow carved into the vast gravel plain. We return to Montereale along the bank of the torrent, which rises ever higher from the very white river bed, up to heights of 50-60 metres. The bridges over the river are clearly visible along the route and certainly, the Sacile-Pinzano-Gemona railway bridge stands out for its architectural style and the harmony of its stone arches.
