A bike route on the slopes of Mount San Simeone, passing through the quaint medieval village of Venzone and areas of wildlife and natural interest.
Itinerary
Starting from Venzone, you cross the Tagliamento River and pedal along the old military road. In possimity of Cavazzo Carnico, you descend to Lake Cavazzo, or dei Tre Comuni, the largest natural body of water in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where you can rest in the picnic areas. You continue through Alesso and Braulins and arrive in Bordano, the famous butterfly village, from where you return to Venzone.

In the summertime, Lake Cavazzo is a popular swimming area, where it is possible to rent rowboats or pedal boats to experience the lake from a different perspective.
Public-transport-friendly
Venzone (Carnia Station) can be reached by Train+Bike service on the Udine-Tarvisio line. It is a mandatory stop for all trainsets, including the special MiCoTra train serving between Udine and Villach (A) along the Alpe Adria cycle route.
Ample parking near the train station.
Helmets and a water supply are recommended, especially in the warmer months.
