Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico of Trieste is located at the Magazzino 26 (Warehouse 26) of the Porto Vecchio (Old Harbour).

The vast and prestigious late 19th-century building houses the hands-on exhibits, and the interactive devices typical of new-generation museums, all of which require visitors to be physically touched, in order to discover not only natural phenomena but also the most innovative science applications as well as the research activities of the entities of Trieste's science system.
The museum is developed on two floors, with a total space of 2,000 square metres featuring exhibition areas and laboratory spaces. There are 100 interactive exhibits that guide visitors to discover motion, fluids, electrostatics, magnetism and electromagnetism, sound, light and shadow, mirrors and reflections, mathematics, logic, and optical illusions.

Inside the museum, there are workshop spaces where experimental and creative activities can be realised.

The friendly, informal, and engaging museum setting makes the Immaginario Scientifico well-suited for visitors of all ages and school groups.

The museum is divided into three main sections: Trieste and Science, where the research that originates and develops in the area's institutes of excellence is illustrated in a participatory manner; Fenomena, a section where the "hands-on exhibits" are located, to experience basic science and where the Casa dell'Innovazione (House of Innovation) is also located: an exhibit to explain research and innovation to children, designed, developed and promoted by Area Science Park; Innova, where the most advanced technologies of applied research are explored.

These are complemented by two special sections: Imaginaire Scientifique, an immersive space in which to take a journey through the most evocative images of science, and the Planetarium, in which visitors can take fascinating tours of the celestial sphere.

Laboratories are divided into three sections:
Officina (Workshop), complete with work tables stocked with hundreds of tools and materials, and a space dedicated to tinkering, creative building, and all the activities that allow you to think "with your hands".
Laboratorio ABC (ABC Workshop) - a real laboratory for research and experimentation.
Spazio per la mente (Space for the mind) - a space for collaborative activities and discussion games on scientific topics.

A partnership for the museum

The museum exists thanks to the active partnership of scientific entities (please visit the Trieste and Science section) and companies in the area, characterised by high levels of innovation: Acegas Aps Amga - HERA Group, SIAD Group, Saipem, Esteco and Sissa Medialab.
The museum was also developed thanks to the support of the Casali Foundation, the CRTrieste Foundation, and the Pietro Pittini Foundation.
The support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Municipality of Trieste, and the Ministry of University and Research was also fundamental.
