Challenging loop hike in the Friulian Dolomites, along the Troi dai Sclops (gentian trail) via the Giaf refuge and Casera Valbinon
A loop hike reserved for people who are trained and able to move over sometimes unstable terrain such as steep scree and rocky cliffs.
The trail takes place within the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, within sight of the Forni di Sopra basin from whose valley floor it starts.
The Giaf refuge launches the walker into the rocky world of these Dolomites, then reaching Forcella Urtisiel where the panorama increases. In this hiking proposal, a short digression leads to the East Urtisiel peak, which is worth a visit by lengthening the walk a little. Back down to the fork, the long green traverse reaches the basin of the isolated Casera Valbinon and the subsequent clearing of Canpuros, heavenly places.
From the nearby Lavinal Pass, a long, steep descent leads back to Borsaia, a short distance from the starting point of this spectacular hiking loop.
Recommended route up to the Urtisiel Fork from the Giaf hut.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Along the route, the Giaf refuge and the Valbinon cheese factory turn out to be managed refreshment and shelter points during the summer season.
At Canpuros the typical wooden hut offers shelter possibilities in case of need.
The Urtisiel East peak is reported to be reserved for experienced hikers E.E.
Forni di Sopra is served by the local public transport line with daily runs.
From the village to the starting point (on foot) calculate about 1 hour.
From Tolmezzo, along the Tagliamento Valley, reach Forni di Sopra following the S.S. 52 Carnica. Once past Forni di Sopra, after a group of houses, the road for the Giaf refuge comes off on the left (directions on site), which should be followed for about 1 km to the parking lot near the bridge with subsequent ban on motor vehicles, the starting point of the itinerary.
Parking near the bridge over the Giaf stream.
