The historical-naturalistic hike along the eastern ridge of the Kolovrat range, on the border between Italy and Slovenia, offers a fascinating insight into the history and nature of this area, which was marked by dramatic events during World War I. This trail, which runs along the three eastern peaks of the Kolovrat ridge, offers visitors an easy but impressive walk with views of the valley of Caporetto and Tolmin.

Kolovrat is famous for being the scene of the 12th Battle of the Isonzo, a crucial conflict in Italian history, with an emblematic episode: the retreat of the Italian Army to Caporetto, where a third line of defense was established.
Here also lies the memory of Riccardo Di Giusto, the first Italian soldier to fall in the conflict, killed on May 24, 1915 at Zagradan Pass.

Even today, walking along the trail, one can see the remains of fortifications and trenches, tangible evidence of a past marked by conflict. Thanks to initiatives such as the INTERREG III A Italy/Slovenia program, the area has been transformed into an open-air museum, paying homage to a history that lives on through the landscape.
