Loop trail that leads to discover the Malghe di Collalto, admiring the famous blooms and viewpoints over the Friulian plain.
Leaving the Piancavallo Infopoint, from the traffic circle at the entrance to the village take the main asphalt road that descends towards Aviano. Immediately afterwards take the paved forest road on the left near the electricity cabin. A few steps and you will find yourself immersed in the beech forest typical of the area. On the curve to the left, before Casera Collalt, turn right and continue for a short distance, until you reach the lookout point over the Friulian plain
Rejoin the trail, pass the shelter and cross the asphalt Castaldia-Collalt road . Continue following the red-and-white markings of the Malghe Promenade. At the junction with the forest road turn right, climb briefly until you come to a wide gap. Look to the left to locate the CAI Sentiero Fontanuzze trail marker. Proceed to the sign for CAI 985. Continue along the Fontanuzze-CAI 985 connector. From here you can admire the many blooms and the unexpected panoramic view of the basin. When you reach the junction with CAI 985, turn left to ascend toward Piancavallo.
The trail reaches the Passeggiata delle Malghe, which it follows for a short distance to the right. It then turns left, near the Casera del Medico cheese factory, toward a grove of fir trees. After a short ascent, CAI Trail 985 travels through the wide and distinctive glaciokarst valley to the forest road. Turn left and continue to Casera Caseratte, a restored and open shelter. Follow the signpost Malghe-Piancavallo Passeggiata and continue along the trail. Cross the junction with the forest road and follow the red-and-white signs. The trail ends at Via Collalto. Follow the paved road back to the starting point.
