Loop route along the Val di Sass, reaching the Antro delle Mate, suggestive cave and Col Cornier with spectacular views between Cansiglio and Monte Cavallo.
Depart from the Piancavallo Infopoint. Turn right on Via Barcis to Hotel 1301 Inn. Near the hotel, take the service road that runs alongside the soccer fields and continue to Casera Capovilla, where CAI path 924 begins. After a short stretch the trail joins an old forest road. Go past the signs for Cima Manera until the road becomes a path again. The trail climbs up the side of the downhill slope to Baita Arneri. Immediately after the electrical cabin, on the right, CAI path 918 begins, which climbs toward Mount Tremol.
From here there are distant views and blooms in every season. The natural surroundings are similar to high-altitude grasslands, and orchids, lilies and edelweiss bloom as the seasons change. The trail comes to a junction with the track it crosses. Pay attention to the signs. Continue along the Val dei Sass. At the first fork, descending to the left, you will come to the charming cave ofAntro delle Mate or Antro delle Lamate, a place of ancient legends and mysterious tales related to witches.
Continuing instead along the Val dei Sass, it is possible to reach the magnificent belvedere located between Cansiglio and Monte Cavallo. Our route continues beyond the Antro della Mate until we reach CAI 993. Turn left for Baita Arneri. Go past the first fork with CAI 984. At the second fork take the CAI 992 route to the right for Col Cornier. The route winds through impressive karst phenomena where large dolines alternate with deep sinkholes. For the lucky ones, it is possible to see the majestic eagle in flight. Continue on CAI 992 to Forcella del Sauc, behind Mount Sauc, and then along the Sentiero delle Carbonaie CAI 992, following the red-and-white signs. Reaching the church named after Mary Help of Christians, beside Cuore di Pietra, return to the starting parking lot.
