This is an itinerary that leads to the places that have characterized the history and economy of the town of Cimolais, while also allowing for an appreciation of the morphology and naturalistic aspects of the Cimoliana Valley and the imposing mountains that surround it.
From the parking lot located on the bank of the Cimoliana stream, at the Park Headquarters, we take and follow the bike path that runs along the stream, first reaching the equipped green area of Prè de Cecio and, later, the environmental context that housed the ancient water-powered mills and sawmills. Among the remains of these buildings (explanatory panels), we find a recovered one (former sawmill). The road, now unpaved, continues always going up the course of the wide bed of the Cimoliana stream, intercepting two large buildings: the first, the Foresteria Mugolio, takes its name from the activity of distilling the essential oil of the mountain pine, housed previously; the second, once used as a brick kiln, currently houses a herd of chamois goats. Just beyond this last building you reach and pass the Compol Bridge and, once you have also passed the tollgate for access to the Cimoliana Valley, you descend to the right in the direction of Pian dei Sediei (an equipped green area) until you reach the Lesca Bridge, located over a small gorge created by the crystal-clear waters of the Cimoliana stream. Returning along the same route to the Compol Bridge, we enter its namesake valley going up the dirt road, appreciating the imposing presence of the Cima dei Preti massif above, the highest mountain in the Park. When you reach the end of the dirt road (ford), return to the Val Cimoliana road and follow it out, keeping to the right, passing upstream the farm seen earlier and leading, with a short climb, to the wide terraced meadows of Bresin, where we find ancient, partly restored stavoli, mowing meadows and grazing animals. Past the Bresin Campsite, we reach the village of Cimolais, cross its historic center and reach the Park Headquarters (Visitor Center and Information Office) and the parking lot below.
