Starting from the Pelizzo Refuge, a spectacular loop on easy trails, however, takes us to the summit of one of the most scenic Friulian peaks, Mount Matajur! Along the way you can admire the pastures frequented in summer by Plezzane sheep, the ancient planine (casere) where the valley dwellers used to spend the summer grazing, fanstastic examples of surface karst and in season grandiose alpine blooms. A small chapel is encountered on the summit, while before returning to the Pelizzo you also pass by Dom Na Matajure, in rigufio run by an association of volunteers from the Natisone Valleys.

    Author’s recommendation

Definitely recommend a stop at Rifugio Pelizzo or Dom Na Matajure!
