Medium-difficulty hike that reaches a unique panorama: rock, water nature meet at Guado del Cunath and Artugna Gorge.
Leaving the Piancavallo infopoint, from the traffic circle at the entrance to Piancavallo take Via del Cansiglio slightly uphill. Take Via dei Rododendri to the right for a short distance and then turn left onto Via dei Ciclamini, through the beautiful hamlets of the locality. At the end of the road, CAI 994 starts on the right and 990 on the left. Continue on Trail 994, or the Path of Remembrance, which is dedicated to the partisan commander Maso who died here in combat on April 12, 1945, a few days before the end of the war. The trail briefly follows a forest road and then enters the forest. Continuing downhill, you reach the border between the municipalities of Aviano and Budoia. Cross the Piancavallo-Cansiglio ridge and continue until you reach Casera Sauc, almost completely hidden by the growth of vegetation.
Follow the CAI 994 trail marker, from which you will soon reach the Venezia delle Nevi dirt road. Follow it downhill for a short distance and rejoin the path at the first hairpin bend. Descend until you cross the old dirt road again, to be followed for about 250 meters. Pass the Tarabin Fountain and descend back into the woods. Follow the sign indicating the fork for CAI 990 and after about fifteen minutes of walking you will reach the Guado del Cunath and the beginning of the Artugna Gorge, a wonderful spectacle of water and rocks. Take the CAI 990 trail on the left that gently ascends the Valle de la Stua, crosses the Cavallo-Cansiglio ridge and leads back to Via dei Ciclamini and the starting point.
