Loop hike to the Policreti Refuge, which gave its name to the famous trail. Nature blends with the historical context of the area, which is rich in elements bearing witness to the past.
The loop starts from the Piancavallo Infopoint. From the traffic circle at the entrance to Piancavallo take Via del Cansiglio slightly uphill. Take Via dei Rododendri to the right for a short distance and then turn left onto Via dei Ciclamini, through the beautiful hamlets of the locality.
At the end of the road, CAI 994 starts on the right and 990 on the left. Continue on Trail 994 first, for a short distance on a forest road, and then enter the forest. Continuing downhill, you reach the border between the municipalities of Aviano and Budoia. Cross the Piancavallo-Cansiglio ridge and follow the marker indicating the first junction between CAI 994 and 990. Follow the junction descending into the middle of the beautiful beech forest, thus reaching, in a short time, the CAI 990 trail. Take the Policreti Trail, CAI990a, in the direction of Castaldia. When you reach the paved road from Aviano to Piancavallo, continue for 100 meters to the right to take the path on the left slightly uphill to Casera Castaldia.
Continue left on a gentle ascent to Casera Collalt. Before re-entering the forest, you can enjoy the spectacular view of the plain. From the shelter continue with minimal ups and downs along the trail. In Via degli Alpini, on the remains of the Policreti Shelter destroyed by the occupiers at the end of World War II, stands the small church of the same name and present day. Return to the starting point from Via Collalto.

The Policreti Trail, takes its name from the first shelter the community of Pordenone mountain enthusiasts equipped themselves with, which was the Policreti Refuge. In 1925 the newly formed CAI section of Pordenone, set up this hut, adapting it to accommodate the first passionate skiers who reached Piancavallo by bicycle to Dardago and from there on foot along the mule track.
