Loop hike along the Gerometta Trail and Col Cornier: glimpses of the Veneto-Friuli plain and exceptional blooms that transform the mountain into a flourishing garden.
From the Piancavallo infopoint, turn right on Via Barcis to Hotel 1301 Inn. Near the hotel, take the service road that runs alongside the soccer fields and continue to Casera Capovilla. Take CAI path 924. After 300 meters, with a sharp right turn, the ascent begins. On either side of the trail you can spot a couple of large, old charcoal pits. Higher up the forest gives way to meadows and wide views of Piancavallo and the Veneto-Friuli plain.
The junction with the Gerometta CAI 993 trail is reached . The trail leads, with slight ups and downs, to Baita Arneri. From early June to late August, the numerous blooms, transform the mountain into a lush garden. From late July to early August, you can admire the bloom of the rare Campanula thyrsoide.
From Baita Arneri, continue on CAI path 993 and follow it to the junction with CAI 992 for Col Cornier. The trail reaches the summit of Col Cornier. Here you can admire evident karst phenomena in which deep dolines and mysterious sinkholes alternate. From the top of Col Cornier, you can see an extraordinary panorama. Proceed toward the Forcella del Sauc, keep to the right and follow the CAI signs.
The forest is enriched with various species of plants and flowers among them the Aquilegia einseleana. Continue along the Sentiero delle Carbonaie CAI 992, until you reach Piazzale della Puppa.
