Hike riding the 2000m above the Vette Panorama road, from which it rides riding the upper ridges of M. Pezzacul and Crostis, with passage to Tarondon Lake.
Hike that runs for a stretch along the Panoramica delle Vette road, skirting the scenic southern slopes of Crostis and Pezzacul.
After an initial section that slavishly follows the carriageway, the route goes along CAI trails and marked tracks that skim the ridges of these soft mountains within sight of M. Coglians, Friuli Venezia Giulia's highest peak.
Past the small alpine lake of Tarondon, CAI trail 154 leads on a long diagonal to M. Pezzacul, whose southern ridge you ascend by clear tracks to near the summit at 2176m.
Descending by a narrower track to the wide gap between Pezzacul and Crostis (non-CAI section), climb to the summit of Crostis at 2251m to enjoy a unique panorama of the Carnic, Julian and Dolomite Alps.
The return is along the direct trail to the Chiadinas refuge, thus closing a very rewarding loop.
Possible to shorten the loop by climbing to Pezzacul from near Malga Crostis along the obvious military mule track.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
From the dirt road onward, up to the saddle between Crostis and Pezzacul, the route follows paths and tracks that are often heavily overgrown and poorly marked; for this reason, it is advisable to do this hike in spring and autumn when the vegetation is less developed.
It is possible to return to the overview of the peaks at the southern ridge of Pezzacul, toward the Crostis malga, using the obvious military mule track after the junction with CAI 153.
There is only one drinking fountain along the first part of the trail; equip yourself with adequate water supplies.
Avoid the hike in foggy weather: only the direct Chiadinas - Crostis trail is easy to spot in this respect.
Absent
The Chiadinas refuge, near which is the parking lot that concurs with the starting and ending point of the itinerary, can be reached by climbing from the village of Comeglians, in the valley bottom of the Degano Valley, through the hamlets of Mieli and Tualis. The signs for the Panoramica delle Vette are numerous and should be followed until the road ends near the refuge. The road is steep and, in some places, without protection: it requires good driving on this type of road.
From the saddle of Valcalda, near Ravascletto, follow the road that drops off toward the mountain at the junction at the village entrance; again, signs are present. The ascent from this side involves traveling about 7 final km on a flat dirt road.
Evident parking near the Chiadinas refuge signs.
