The trek begins at Cima Sappada, at a height of 1,290 m above sea level, next to the church. Take the asphalted road in the direction of the Sorgenti del Piave springs and then take the Sentiero Naturalistico Piave (Piave Nature Trail) which, passing the Rifugio Piani del Cristo shelter, the Baita Rododendro mountain lodge and crossing the road several times, climbs entirely up to Val Sesis. Once you have reached the narrowing close to the Fienili di Sesis mountain hut, follow the signposted path to the right that leads to the Avanza pass, where the Casera di Casa Vecchia mountain hut is located. From the pass, follow a forest road to the left to re-join the Val Sesis road, which is then followed uphill. At the crossroads, take the dirt road on the right, signposted CAI Trail No. 132, which leads uphill directly to the Rifugio Calvi shelter at a height of 2,164 m above sea level.
