The Barcis basin is home to the artificial lake of the same name, created by the damming of the Ponte Antoi dam, leaning against the vertical walls from which the great canyon of the Cellina Gorgeoriginates.
From the Ponte Antoi locality, where the Information Point and the Visitor Center of the Cellina Gorge Nature Reserve are located, leave behind the mouth of the tunnel of the Vecchia Strada della Valcellina, decommissioned in 1992 and now reserved for cyclists and pedestrians, and head towards the embankment that crosses the artificial lake of Barcis: the view is spectacular, the water, the woods and the sky enchant visitors by immersing them in a unique nature. Having reached the town center thanks to a convenient pedestrian-cycle path dotted with scenic viewpoints and welcoming rest areas, a visit to the Paese, which was set on fire in retaliation by German troops in August 1944, is appropriate. Past the Paese, you will soon reach the footbridge in the locality of "Fontane ", walk along it and take you to the opposite shore of the lake. From here you follow part of the road and a characteristic section of the Sentiero degli Alpini, where, from an old stone bridge, you can observe the bottom of the Forra del torrente Caltea. The route crosses meadows once used for mowing and cultivation (Vallata locality), beech and other broadleaf forests. A downhill stretch of road then leads to the short tunnel that opens onto the crown of the dam that formed the artificial lake. Past the dam, it is a short ride back to the starting point at Ponte Antoi locality.
