Do you enjoy being by the sea? Do you like cycling and enjoy history too? Or perhaps you prefer good food?
Whatever your preference, you must not miss the chance to go for a ride between Lignano and Grado and cycling through some place rich in history, such as Aquileia, the lovely village of Strassoldo and the fascinating town of Torviscosa.
The starting point of the tour is the dock of Lignano Sabbiadoro: a comfortable boat ride will take you to Grado through the lush and living lagoon that divides the two towns.
As soon as you get off the boat you hop on the saddle and follow the many cycle paths in Grado to immerse yourself in the evocative atmosphere of the town, a place to discover and enjoy.
Then take the panoramic Ciclovia Alpeadria and coasting the lagoon arrive at Aquileia where you go back in time to the period of the Holy Roman Empire; then continue up to the Borgo Vecchio at Castello di Strassoldo, a place surrounded by a blooming landscape full of vegetation that is magical to say the least.
Continuing on comfortable and wide secondary roads we then arrive at the very interesting small town of Torviscosa, built in the 1930s as acompany town, whose unmistakably fascist architecture makes this site a true open-air museum.
Just a few kilometres further (still on country roads) and you arrive at Marano Lagunare, a historical fishing village which with its streets and its port reminds the town of Grado. Here we climb aboard a comfortable motorboat and, still enjoying the spectacle that the lagoon offers us, we return to Lignano.
The kilometres travelled by bike at the end came to about 40, but the effort was abundantly rewarded by the splendour of the places we passed through and – why not – also by the excellent lunch based on local products that we granted ourselves during one of the well-deserved breaks.
One adjective to define this experience: FANTASTIC!
A father with a passion for photography and video-making, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with friends and organising events. Sufficiently touchy, and I’m easily bored… but never when I travel around my region.
