From Gemona to Venzone Along the Alpe Adria Cycle Trail
Getting to Venzone from Gemona del Friuli along theAlpe Adria Cycle Trail is a simple route, also suitable for children, which unfolds mainly on the flat.
From a fan of my sofa, I turned into a semi-passionate cyclist; let me tell you how I did it!
In order not to cycle too many miles and always travel on the cycle trail (and not on a road) the best starting point is the Willy Hotel in Gemona. Here you will find a large parking space where you can leave your car and a perfect refreshment point for when return!
The cycle trail takes you from the back of the hotel’s garden, crossing a pretty little bridge over a stream. Then it continues to the left, in the direction of Venzone, for a short stretch in the countryside.
A few hundred metres further on, the cycle trail comes out on the main road, which connects Gemona to Ospedaletto. Fortunately, you do not go out on this highway, but on the road passing through the village. You pass in front of the famous Osteria & Cucina (another perfect refreshment point for the return!).
Before the roundabout, turn right among the houses and a few metres later, behind the church of the village, you’re back on the cycle trail. This is the first challenging hill to climb, easily tackled with a bike with good gears, but otherwise you can push the bike by hand. At the end of the climb you find yourself alongside the main road.
From here continue downhill until you get to Rivoli Bianchi near Venzone and continue alongside the main road. This is perhaps the most beautiful part: despite the proximity to the road, there are no noises besides those of nature and the wheels of the bike. Some stretches are like tunnels made of trees, and even on the hottest days you will not feel tired.
