The Far East Film Festival made the ground shake with the sound of the Taiko drums for the great opening night of the 20th edition; the biggest European festival dedicated to the popular Far Eastern cinema in Udine is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, enriching itself with other offerings and collateral events.
The edition begins under the auspices of the fish dance, usually staged during the New Year to attract money and fortune in abundance, and constituting an evocative choreography with highly trained athletes, who animated the shapes entirely made by hand.
The selection of the opening film, a Korean work called Steel Rain by Yang Woo - seok, a political action thriller, is very interesting. It tells the story of a country in constant struggle between fear and hope of a new beginning, and offers a strong and courageous theme.
There are 81 films, 21 of which first or second works, reflecting the continuous change of film as product, of new authors and new directors that characterises Asian cinema.
The city of Udine is confirmed as the beating heart of the Festival, welcoming over a hundred events in full Asias Style in a week.
In addition to the FEFF Market, which hosts Asian-themed stalls in the first weekend of April and on the second weekend offers the best creations of local designers, there are demonstrations of martial arts, workshops to learn Asian traditions, conferences, green and wellness spaces, a showcase and videogame experience, food and tastings, and the highly anticipated Far East Cosplay Contest.
The evenings will be coloured by DjSet and Musical Happy Hours under the guidance of Eitetsu Tukamiya and Dj Set Pei.
A Festival not to be missed, an opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and cinema of the Far East.
Since I believe images are equally important in communication, I decided to broaden my knowledge of photography by doing numerous courses and workshops. I also work for companies and individuals as a freelance graphic artist and web designer.
